Hi there! My name is Linda LeMoan Marks, but I go by Linda “Beauty” Marks. I was born and raised in New Haven, CT by foster parents. But it was my biological parents that gave me the love for all things natural. I suppose that had a lot to do with the fact they were from Montgomery, AL.
My dad was an excellent gardener, and everything he touched blossomed. He showed me some of his great growing and pruning techniques. My mom taught me how to eat healthily and choose food closest to its natural form. I can honestly say that what they taught me truly stuck! My curiosity grew with age and life changes.
My life changes happened in my late 20’s when I was diagnosed with the hyperthyroid disease (Grave’s Disease). Already married about seven years with four children from the marriage, I shrunk from a size 12 to a size 7. At 5’9” that was like the character Olive Oil from the “Popeye The Sailor Man” Cartoon!
I was young, gullible and trusted whatever the doctor said. His great idea was to reverse my condition to hypothyroidism (Hashimoto Disease). I patiently waited in a room surrounded by very thick, cold walls and very thick glass. A woman walked into the room in a special suit with very thick gloves.
She handed me a container that resembled Russian stacking dolls. I wondered how many containers there were to get to the medicine. When I finally got to the medication, she told me to swallow this horse pill with a glass of water she gave me. Again, she wouldn’t touch anything with her bare hands.
The doctor (my primary physician) told me that I would feel a little discomfort. Don’t you hate when the doctor underplays what’s really going to happen? It hurt like someone ripped something out of my throat for at least a few weeks! It was like getting my tonsils taken out for the second time!
That horse pill was radioactive iodine! It made my thyroid stop producing hormones. He told me that I would have to take synthetic hormones for the rest of my life. Well…what he didn’t tell me is how many health issues a dysfunctional thyroid can cause.
Why didn’t he tell me that the thyroid controls my metabolism and affects nearly every part of my body? As I aged, I had these mysterious changes in my health that the doctors did not explain to me. I discovered that they were all thyroid related: pre-diabetes, brain fog, temperature sensitivity, digestive issues, and more! REALLY???
So, I diligently found a way to manage every symptom through diet change, supplements, essential oils, lifestyle change, and education. I eventually found out there is a way to go into remission. To totally reverse this disease is my life’s mission for myself. I’ve been able to improve so many things about my health through the use of alternative health methods. If my doctor had his way, I would be on all kinds of prescription medications. Can’t wait to share my results when I’m able to reach and enjoy total remission.
About that name Linda “Beauty” Marks, some people are curious why I chose it. Well, I was in the foster care system from the age of 2 until I got married at the age of 18. Being in the system was the hardest thing for me to endure as a child. That’s actually an understatement.
It was a nightmare! But out of the ashes of my life, I found a way to overcome. Though my life began in painful sparks, God made those scars my “Beauty” Marks. I’m always looking for ways to be of help to people. I enjoy serving and encouraging people to be their best. That’s what I focus on instead of the bad memories and experiences.
